It is chili season. No doubt about it. Just this last weekend, while in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, at my family—the Ensminger family –reunion, we enjoyed chili while the wind howled and snow accumulated on the slopes. [Read more…]

French Onion Soup
All of a sudden, out of what seemed like nowhere, the bone chilling cold is back and hitting the Midwest with a vengeance. Nothing fights back the cold quite as much as French Onion Soup. We took advantage of a night when our teenager was going to be with friends to enjoy a meal that she would not have enjoyed. It was a special treat for us. I am determined to adhere to my new life rule no matter how hard!
After almost 10 months of plotting, planning, budgeting and dreaming we are preparing to move to our new home. We have packed, packed and then packed some more. There must be a light at the end of the tunnel. Countless car loads of “stuff” to charities and over 200 cookbooks donated to the library system must indicate that we are making progress. These are stressful times and stressful times call for one thing to soothe the soul…..soup. [Read more…]
