Winter finally hit with gusto last weekend. To me, that means it is time to take to the kitchen and make warm and comforting foods.
We each have a different definition of comfort food—a dish that reminds you of Mom or Grandma. Or a rich and creamy flavor that just seems to calm your nerves and warm your soul.

After the holidays our family tries to cut back on all the extravagant food choices but by the time the Super Bowl rolls around we have another standing tradition. Wings and Mexican cheese dip are always served for the “special” game. Since our favorite Kansas City Chiefs are in the playoffs, we may have to break tradition and celebrate with tailgate treats earlier this year.

Call me sentimental, call me silly but I am proud of family traditions and adore recreating warm holiday memories each year. That said, our Christmas Day breakfast has been the same for decades. The beauty of Christmas breakfast is that all of the recipes can be made the day before allowing time for me to sip coffee in my favorite Christmas mug, light the advent candles and enjoy the gift opening festivities. The menu includes Amaretto Fruit, Egg Sausage Casserole and Christmas Coffee Cake. The aroma that dances from the oven always trigger Christmas morning memories. It is a joy to share this recipe so that you can begin your own Christmas Day memories.
