Ice Cream Cookie

A special thanks to the Le Creuset stores in St. Louis and Leawood, KS for hosting a book signing and give away.
A special thanks to the Le Creuset stores in St. Louis and Leawood, KS for hosting a book signing and give away.

We have been having so much fun promoting our new cookbook, The Newlywed Book, Cooking Happily Ever After. Tis the season for bridal showers, engagements and of course, weddings!

This was a book that we had dreamed about. The focus is on what to do with the items new couples have registered for at their bridal registry, how to select kitchenware, how to stock the pantry and how to entertain. Recipes are sized for two as an answer to the weeknight cooking question. In addition, some recipes yield more servings for the times you might be entertaining or celebrating holidays.

The good news is that we wrote and developed recipes for today’s couples. We know that gone are the days where “the wife” does all the planning and cooking. Husbands now eagerly participate in this process and many couples enjoy cooking together in the kitchen. Many folks have told us this is not only a newlywed book but is perfectly geared for young professionals who are cooking for one and empty nesters, too.

We are so thankful for all the retailers both local and nationally that have supported the launch of this book. It has been fun attending book signings, attending a benefit for the Kansas City Les Dames d’Escoffier, teaching cooking classes and serving samples and treats at retail locations.

Here is one of my favorite sweet treats from the book that I have adapted into mini ice cream cookie sandwiches. These are fun to keep in the freezer for after school snacks or unexpected visitors.

Potato Salad

Posted by Roxanne on April 14, 2015

Potato Salad
Potato salad–do those words bring a smile and cause you to pause and fondly remember days gone by? Do you recall family reunions, picnics, BBQ’s, vacations on the beach or at the lake and a plethora of happy times? Or do you shutter, shake your head and think, oh no! Not potato salad. Who makes potato salad anyway?

Potato salad falls into the same category as meatloaf, chocolate chip cookies and spaghetti sauce. Every home has their own version and that family recipe is truly the only correct way to prepare that traditional food. [Read more…]

Hot Cross Buns

Hot Cross Buns
The special day is finally near! Easter is a week away and that means rituals and recipes that are rich with tradition in our home.

Each Easter morning begins with Hot Cross Buns. These are always served with dyed Easter eggs, fresh fruit and orange juice. This is always the way we begin our special day. It is indeed a glorious day. Yes, of course, the big Easter dinner will take place much later in the day but the day will be off to a grand start with this traditional breakfast. [Read more…]

Yogurt Fruit Parfait

Yogurt Parfait
The weather made a sharp turn this week and even broke temperature records for Kansas City. I do mean drastic changes–yesterday was 83 degrees and summer like. Today is a bit cooler, but yes, spring is around the corner.

With the change in the weather comes a change in what sounds great for breakfast. Wave bye bye to warm oatmeal ladled with pecans and dried fruit and open your arms wide for a welcoming hello hug to colorful fresh fruit, honey infused yogurt and granola. Tis time my friends, no need to go to the corner coffee shop and order a parfait. These are easy peasy to make at home. [Read more…]

Whiskey Sours

Posted by Roxanne on February 24, 2015

Whiskey Sour
Whiskey, hmmm or is it bourbon? Whiskey has become the new buzz word in many food circles. Heck, I don’t even drink cocktails that often but during the holidays, I purchased whiskey and planned to celebrate all the “at home” time with a whiskey cocktail or bourbon on the rocks. Well, the best laid plans….never a drop of whiskey touched my lips.

Then it happened—the cold hit and caused a layer of dark days and gloom over all. Nights are spent in front of the fire and yes, over the weekend, it did involve whiskey. Before I digress too far, let’s define whiskey vs. bourbon.

All bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon. [Read more…]
