The excitement in this part of the county is of Galaxy proportions!
The Total Eclipse is absolutely mind boggling. Those of us here in the Kansas City area are super excited. And we are not alone—everyone around here is Eclipse crazy!!! It just seemed natural to have a party and invite a few of our younger friends. Roxanne’s nephews and niece had a ball helping us explore the Galaxy and bake the treats! (We laughed all afternoon and had a ball with them!)
We love to use pastry bags to decorate cupcakes (cakes, cookies and practically everything we bake.) To think you can now get them already filled is a-dream-come-true. Do you use pastry bags? One fact is so true–with small hands (or even bigger hands, sometimes) it is easy to forget to twist the top of a bag, which means icing comes out everywhere. We LOVE the fact that these Filled Pastry Bags are sealed and are ready to use. There is already even the star tip on the bag. They are easy-peasy. Thank you Pillsbury!
Even the youngest can help decorate and the frosting is great to eat.
Of course we had to add sprinkles and moon rocks and all kinds of good things. What an Eclipse Decorating Party! Pillsbury even sent a cool Galaxy Map and the kids had fun building a galaxy with all of the planets in their correct spot. (What a tricky way to learn about outer space and astronomy.)
Even for those of us who are not astronomy experts, the pulse in this region is electrifying. We both live just out of the line of totality, but a few miles north makes all of the difference. There are fairs, festivals, educational events, parties and more going on—and they started last Friday and Saturday and will last until Monday night. All for about 2 ½ minutes of no sun. But the scientists tell us that nothing can compare to what we will see. Beyond the darkening of the sun, we can expect a drop in temperature, breezes, animals reacting, birds singing, stars shinning and all kinds of things that typically happen at dusk will suddenly happen just after 1:00 here. It is hard to imagine–but it is very exciting!
While the restaurants are geared up to handle massive (and we do mean massive) crowds, we are taking food and drink with us and trying to stay out of the crowd. And, we have to take fun, memorable food with us because this is a once-in-a-lifetime event.
So, now we that we have the cupcakes decorated, just keep your fingers crossed that the rain clouds don’t block the sun and the traffic does not become a gridlock—which is predicted. No matter, we are having a blast learning about the sun and planets, and baking our Galaxy Cupcakes.
Thank you Pillsbury for all of the fun stuff. Our Eclipse party was a great success.
We did not get paid for this post. All of the opinions expressed are our own.
We thank Pillsbury as they sent us all of the fun items for our Eclipse Party.
